Just wonderful!!! March 20, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
It is so nice to listen to a cd without the usual AI overproducing touches. This is music to not only enjoy listen to but music that you feel!! The songs are so real and heartfelt and I am just enjoying this cd so much. I haven't felt this way about a cd in a long time. There is something for everybody. ballads, rb, and even some dance mixes.br /This album will become a classic for me.....br /
Almost all I that I hoped for March 20, 2007 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Elliott Yamin's debut album has been long anticipated by this reviewer. I love about 3/4 of the tracks, and find one or two repetitive and simplistic. The best track is "I'm the Man," followed closely with "Find a Way," "Alright," "You Are the One," and "Free." I did not enjoy "One Word." I also really liked one of the Bonus tracks (available from Target) called "I'll Make You Dance." In ALL of the tunes, Elliott really brings it home with his soulful interpretations and emotional smoky voice. I think this is a very good debut album, but I hope his next one includes better songs with more advanced lyrics and melody lines because he is up to it. He is as good a singer as exists out there. He just needs material up to his level of talent. He can really blow.
Elliott Deserves Success March 20, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
This debut cd was worth the wait....and worth paying for! The music IS Elliott Yamin. It is true to his image and showcases his talent. For those who fell in love with Elliott's voice during AI season 5, you know what its all about. And for those who aren't Idol Fans, but just love great music, its time to discover Elliot as a recording artist.
Worth the Wait March 20, 2007 99 out of 110 found this review helpful
Well, we've had to wait quite a while for Elliott's CD but I have to say he has done a fine job. His voice sounds great and several of the songs deserve to be hits. My personal favorites are You Are the One, Trainwreck, I'm the Man, Wait for You, Take My Breath Away, and A Song for You. I heard the whole CD on AOL music and I received my Amazon order today, right on schedule.br /br /Someone else posted that they thought all the songs sounded the same. I don't agree. Elliott sings his heart out on each track and makes each song his own.br /br /I do think the lyrics are sometimes too simple but that does not take away from the quality of the album.br /br /And the album gets even better after the first listen.br /br /Now I just hope those who didn't watch American Idol will buy the CD, too. They are in for a huge treat.br /br /BTW, there are bonus tracks at other places to buy the album and Elliott does a fantastic version of Whiter Shade of Pale.
Best of the Idol-ers, but not a homerun March 20, 2007 30 out of 59 found this review helpful
I only watch that show American Idol during the last few weeks. And last year, it was Elliott Yamin who stood out for me. In fact, he was the only contestant I ever voted for in the history of that sad, sad excuse for a show.br /br /His personal presence and talent were obvious, and the fact that he didn't win confirms the worst of what is said about the musical taste of this country.br /br /I purchased this CD with high hopes. I still have high hopes for Mr Yamin. I am only sorry I don't like this CD more than I do.br /br /The endless musical intros, the random track order, and the repetitious sound of ALL the arrangements add up to a less than ideal debut. All of the songs sound the same. Not one of them stands out. And that is surprising - because Mr Yamin is a standout singer. br /br /The CD bounces from one ordinary song to another. Some tracks sound as if they were recorded in someone's basement with a synthesizer doing all the instruments. br /br /This is the type of self-indulgent album that labels used to let BIG talents do now and then. The fans enjoyed them and the few writers featured made some nice royalties.br /br /My hope is that Elliott Yamin is NOT tied to a particular songbook or bound to these particular producers. I look forward to his next CD. But if it's more of the same - I can't say I will buy it.
