An Impressive Debut Album March 20, 2007 22 out of 24 found this review helpful
Fans of the show "American Idol"-- which in 2006 introduced up-and-coming recording artist, Elliott Yamin, to the world-- will agree on one undeniable truth about this album: it's an Elliott Yamin album. On the show, Yamin selected a variety of songs that made an impression on him musically and showed off his vocal chops. It is clear that he used that same approach in the creation of his self-titled debut album. An eclectic yet cohesive mixture of soul, RB, pop, and adult contemporary songs, "Elliott Yamin" has a little something for everyone--from the melancholy ("You Are The One", "Wait For You") to the get-up-and-move-around ("Alright", "Movin' On"). Tracks like "Find A Way" and "Free" effectively remind listeners of Yamin's ability to creatively bend his voice, and his throwback classic soul styling is immediately discernible in tunes like "Train Wreck" and "Take My Breath Away". He even paid a very impressive tribute to his musical influence, Donny Hathaway, by his fantastic, powerful rendition of Leon Russell's "A Song For You", appropriately placed as the album's final track. Two bonus songs-- "Whiter Shade of Pale" and "In Love With You Forever"-- further illustrate Yamin's musical versatility. Overall, "Elliott Yamin" has the makings of a instant and enduring classic that current and new fans will appreciate for years to come.
This is just a beginning March 20, 2007 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
I feel Elliott is here to stay. His voice alone should buy him a ticket to the future, it's that good. I can't wait for him to woo new fans with this and (many) other albums. br /br /Btw, I couldn't wait for the CD, so I've bought the album on iTunes (with 2 bonus tracks: In Love With You Forever Whiter Shade of Pale). br /br /It does feel good to be able to spend my money on him. He's better than chocolate, and I love chocolate (right about the time he sang "It Had To Be You" on AI I thought I might be cured from my real chocolate addiction, as it didn't taste as good as it used to, hee)
LOVE THIS MANS VOICE! March 20, 2007 this cd could have been produced better...but Elliott's voice makes up for the minor flaws.I am a metal head at heart!! but i know a INCREDIBLE voice when i hear one...
A "FEAST" FOR THE SOUL March 20, 2007 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
Imagine the best meal of your life,The most beautiful snowfall, a painting that left you breathless, your first true love~THE FEELINGS you had with each experience....When I listened to all of Elliott's songs today I knew I had experienced a precious jewel. I had to hear it again again. After 8 times in one day, my happiness, my joy, my senses were more alive than they'd been for quite some time. I cried, I smiled, I closed my eyes,I went along for the Elliott ride of my life! He took me there. Yes, every single song is a story of his life, some aspect. br /Elliott Yamin speaks to me and to so many. Please do not miss out on this RARE treasure. You owe it to yourself to experience a vocal genius a beautiful soul. Thank you Elliott!br /
Elliot's debut CD WELL worth the wait!!!! March 20, 2007 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
It was a long time coming, but this debut CD is all that we his fans hoped for...and MORE. I'm the type that I have to hear a song a few times before I can really catch on with it, but that's not the case here. First time I listened to "Wait for You" and "One Word", and I was instantly hooked on both of them. Both have really catchy chorus refrains, and are instantly "identifable." I also really loved "You are the One"...a very tender ballad. I also really enjoyed "Train Wreck" and "Movin' On." I'm VERY glad he added "A Song for You." Definitely, definitely worth the wait!!!
