"Happy Xmas War Is Over" and "Cold Turkey" could easily have been left off this compilation in order to make room for one of Lennon's most haunting and beautiful melodies, "Old Dirt Road," which was penned by Lennon and Harry Nilson during their partying days in LA. Too bad.

For Lennon fans ...This may or may not be a good choice...I happened to have liked all of the tracks here... "purists" however would complain it didnt have this track or that track... Since I have very little of Johns music on cd...its a good starter ...

Listen to a Beatles song, any Beatles song, and you'll think, "It's good, but it's not their best." What is their best song? And the fact is, they never made it. Meanwhile, for much of my life, I thought John Lennon's solo career consisted of three songs and two weren't very good. That is just so wrong. He had an extremely productive career as a solo artist, far more insightful AND more musical than anything he did with the Fab Four. Truly. During our recent Laotian border run, when it got too dark to read, I listened to some John Lennon in my MP3 player that I'd never heard before. Wow. Get this.
