BEST FAMILY MOVIE EVER! December 8, 2007 There is no better movie than this for family viewing. I show it to friends all the time, (I've seen it at least 5 times). They all say the same thing, "Where has this great film been hiding?"br /br /Other great movies are. Billy Elliott, Strictly Ballroom, The Man who Would be King, Shirley Valentine. Try these, you won't be sorry. Ron.
You'll love it! October 14, 2007 I have no idea what made me reach for this movie the first time - but now I reach for it all the time. The movie is very suitable for children - but I think there is even more for adults. It has a certain bittersweet poetry about it one of the best endings ever. This is in my top ten favorite movies.
great movie September 7, 2007 I had never heard of this movie. After it was suggested I buy it to get free shipping I did. Now it is in the top 5 of my all time favourite movies. Thanks, Amazon.
Here's An Odd Captivating Irish Tale September 5, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I always remember this movie for the shock of seeing a horse trying to live an apartment. Now, there's an unusual sight! I revisited this film last week and for a second and an overdo "ride" with these mystical Irish gypsies and their strange. By the way, I hadn't realized how nicely filmed this was until I saw it on 1.85:1 widescreen DVD. This is far better on disc than on VHS.br /br /Also to my surprise was that it wasn't the happy, family film I had remembered. There are many moments of frustration, sadness, violence, injustice, ete. It's hardly a bunch of fun times. The language is such, too, that I would caution parents here, because people seem to use Jesus' name in vain frequently, even the kids!br /br /It's still a story, basically, about two kids trying to capture and then keep a white horse, which is taken away from them. The cops (some crooked, as filmmakers love to show), the crooks and family are all out over the countryside looking for the boys and the horse. In between, their father slowly comes to grips with the death of his wife some seven years earlier, a tragedy he has never been able to deal with correctly. The best character and the most fun to watch is little "Ossie," played by Ciaran Fitzgerald. He's the one most-attached to the horse and the wee one has some of the best lines in the film.br /
A brief review of "Into the West" March 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A nice story about the Irish Travelers based in part on Irish mythology. A good movie for children about age 10 to adult years. A lot of realism but also fantasy. Very enjoyable!
