Adventurously Good March 17, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a book that I grew up reading. I think that it is a great book. It has many adventurous stories in it. Some parts of it are funny. I like how they use a frog and toad for the characters, it makes the story a little more interesting. The book also involves a little bit of trickery. I would definitely recommend this to kids that want to read a good book. It contains some good points throughtout the book. It also shows about friendship. I really liked this book.
Book+cassette great for non-readers December 30, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Santa brought the book+cassette version of Frog and Toad to our 3 year old for Christmas and she has already listened to it about 20 times. (Although the package says it's for ages 6 to 9, frankly, I think it would be too babyish for kids that old.) Listening to the cassette is perfect for pre-readers and it will help develop aural skills too -- a quality sorely lacking in our visual culture. pThe audio version is read by the author. He does a good job of making it lively to listen to. The use of music adds to the aural experience for kids.pI am now on the search for more of these book/cassette combos because they provide Mommy and Daddy with a few minutes of peace with a simple, but educational, activity that our VERY busy 3 year old can do on her own.
K-2 Teachers: Must buy! November 17, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
An excellent book for teaching across the curriculum! Science and Math.brFrog and toad actually posess many characteristics of real frogs and toads! Frog is more energetic and moves faster than toad, they hibernate etc.pAlso check out the Gems guide called "Frog Math" which has a whole series of math activities to go with the Frog and Toad stories for K-2 students.pI have taught K-02 and all of my students LOVE Frog and Toad and they are well worth reading if you are teaching about Amphibians.pI am distressed that the Spanish translation was done in error! They call Frog "Sapo"(which means toad!)and Toad is called "Sepo".
Favorite with the Kids August 31, 2002 My children have enjoyed this book very much when they were around nine years old. It's a charming tale told from an animalistic view.
The Charm of Childhood March 7, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
With the added benefit of the tape read by Arnold Lobel, my 3 and 6-year-olds love the warm, silly exchanges between Frog and Toad. The stories captivate, charm, and engage young children, and the very recognizable personality differences between the two characters help children identify with their own differences. A plus for any bookshelf.
